Welcome!

King of Kings is a forum for writing and reflection on the medieval legacy of Alexander the Great, written and edited by the members of Harvard's 2019 course Poets, Kings, and Travelers: Alexander the Great in the Medieval World. In its three upcoming issues, this blog will explore how a fourth-century Macedonian conqueror was adopted, celebrated, and ultimately transformed by writers and artists from across the medieval globe.

Our first issue, "Alexander: The Changing Faces of a Hero," will explore Alexander's literary metamorphoses from the third to the twelfth century CE in the Greek-, Arabic-, Persian-, and Latin-speaking worlds. Keep your eyes on this space for issue one, going to (virtual) press on October 9th!
